Mac & Bumble recently put together a photo shoot on a joint project with a company called UberTap (www.ubertap.com) that makes one of the coolest inventions for party animals - it's a keg tap that has a foot pump (no more hand pumping the keg!) and three hoses so three people can fill their cups at once. Ingenious!
I don't know about you but I remember back in my keg party days when you had to stand in line and wait FOREVER to get a beer, and when you were done filling, you were supposed to stand there and pump the keg for the next person. What a pain in the ass!
Anyway, UberTap wanted to use some of our girls to do a joint promotional poster and marketing campaign, and we were all for it. So we contacted some local San Diego models and put together this big three setup shoot, complete with wardrobe and hair/makeup.
We originally booked 9 models, but ended up with 7 models (about par for the course). All the girls were GREAT to work with - very eager to get the shots we wanted, and very photogenic.
The day didn't start out very well though. First, I had to run and pick up a 12-person van, because we really needed everyone together moving between our two locations.
Then I had to run around all over town getting all the pieces (wardrobe, props, gear, etc) for the shoot together. And then the kicker: the shoot absolutely required a keg (obviously, to highlight the UberTap). We booked a keg prior to the shoot, but when I showed up to pick it up, they didn't have ANY kegs. I was already running late (to the meeting place) at that point, so needless to say, I was freaking out!
But the brewmaster at Rock Bottom, where we ordered the keg, hustled and ended up really taking care of us - giving it to us for free even.
So I grabbed the keg, swung by the office to grab some of the staff who were assisting (production manager, grips, etc) then set off for the meeting spot.
I had planned to meet at a local transit Park n Ride because it was central, easy to find and I thought there'd be lots of parking. I was off by two - there was absolutely NO parking, and it was difficult for models to find the location, and then once they found the location, difficult for them to find us!
Our location mistake caused huge delays which affected the shoot, but we made the most of it in the end.
So once we had everyone, we jammed up to the first location to get set up, and get the girls started in hair and makeup.
The location I picked was kind of a hike from the parking lot, but I didn't want a lot of nosey people watching the shoot, and I certainly didn't want to have any trouble with the keg of beer (although I found out later that it's legal to have the keg in that particular park).
It took longer than expected for the girls in makeup, even though we had two going at the same time (the makeup artists did a fantastic job in tough coniditions by the way).

Once the girls were out of makeup, then we needed to get them into wardrobe. We had so many cute little outfits for them, from Amanda in the referee outfit to the cheerleaders and the "football jocks". Great, great stuff..
The only problem was, our schedule was so off that the field we were going to use was scheduled for a softball game. In fact, even before we were ready to shoot, the guys were warming up. But they were super polite and allowed us to use the field and get some shots. I really wish we would have had more time to set up and shoot, because we could have got some REALLY great stuff, but we ended up getting some very usable shots.
Then we moved to the baseball diamond and we were rushed there as well. Those images didn't come out nearly as good for a variety of reasons, and we were rushed to get to the beach because that was going to be our signature shot and the sun was going down.
Once we wrapped up the sports shoots, we hustled to the van, and headed towards the beach. To be honest, I hadn't even picked which beach we were going to shoot at, but we decided that since we were up in University City, that we would just shoot at Windansea since it was close and we were losing light.
We got to Windansea fairly quickly, dropped off the gear, found parking (relatively easy surprisingly!), and got set up. The girls had changed into their bikinis at the sports field so we were ready to go almost immediately.

We had an incredible sunset over their shoulder, and we had a spectacular view of the beach and the ocean! That was really some amazing stuff! I just wish we would have been there 30-45-60 minutes earlier because THAT would have really been good!
But again, the models were great to work with - they started getting crazy at the end, doing keg stands and pouring beer all over themselves! A couple of them even jumped in the ocean afterwards - brrr!
All in all, it was a great shoot, and I think you'll agree - the finished product turned out unbelievable, thanks to Jimmy, our in-house graphics guy who's just a genius with PhotoShop.
Until next time!
